Say what? That’s right. For the first time in memory, jumbo mortgage rates are now lower than rates for conventional home loans. I’ve heard of inverted yield curves with 15 and 30 year mortgages, but never with jumbo and conventional rates. Jumbo loans are those over the conventional maximum of $417,000. They are typically .75 to 1.25 basis points higher in rate than conventional. This past week, Wells Fargo was offering a 4.75% rate for jumbo, compared with 5% for conventional. And I thought I’d seen it all.
